Chairman of the Board of Directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jo Major is Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Avanex. He has an extensive record of accomplishment as a senior executive in tier-one businesses. Dr. Major's experience includes internal and acquisition expertise in product development and introduction, especially with regard to driving the development of highly differentiated products from the design stage to manufacturing.
Dr. Major has spent 14 years with JDS Uniphase Corporation and with SDL, Inc. before its merger with JDS in 2001. At JDS Uniphase, he served successively as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Components Business Group, as Vice President and General Manager of the Active Components Business Group and as Vice President and General Manager of the Optical Pump Business Unit.
At various times during his career with JDS Uniphase, Dr. Major was responsible for business unit profit and loss, customer and product line marketing, product development, product engineering, contract negotiation and forecasting, as well as rationalization and loading of factories in San Jose and Santa Clara, California; Victoria, British Columbia; Plymouth, United Kingdom; Ewing, New Jersey; Windham, Connecticut; Eindhoven, Holland, and Shenzhen, China. His product line responsibilities included pump lasers, receivers, source lasers, and lithium niobate modulators; all passive product lines, including passive modules, and waveguide product groups.
Dr. Major began his professional career at SDL, Inc. as a Research Scientist. He subsequently was promoted to Staff Scientist, to Senior Engineering Section Manager of the Communications Business Unit, to Director of Product Development of the Communications Business Unit and to Director of the Communications Business Unit.
At the time of the SDL and JDS merger, he was Vice President of the Optical Pump Business Unit, with responsibility for all pump laser products, erbium-doped amplifiers, Raman amplifiers and fiber Bragg gratings
As a Research Scientist, he was involved in the first demonstration and commercial introduction of the 980 nm pump laser diode, the commercial introduction of 2 micron lasers and the commercial introduction of high-power 250 mW 852 nm pump lasers for atomic (Ce) clocks. These devices remain the highest power frequency-stabilized laser diodes ever commercialized.
Dr. Major earned his Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. He was an Intel Fellow from 1988-1990, and also has studied finance, marketing and business management at Stanford University.

Dr. Vinton G. Cerf

|
 Vinton G. Cerf is vice president and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google. He is responsible for identifying new enabling technologies and applications on the Internet and other platforms for Google.
Widely known as one of the "Fathers of the Internet," Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. In December 1997, President Clinton presented the U.S. National Medal of Technology to Cerf and his partner, Robert E. Kahn, for founding and developing the Internet.
Cerf served as Senior Vice President at MCI from 1994 to 2005 and as Vice President of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives from 1986 to 1994 and as Vice President of MCI from 1982
to 1986. During his tenure from 1976-1982 with the U.S. Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Cerf played a key role leading the development of Internet and Internet-related data packet and security technologies.
Vint Cerf has served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) since November 2000 and has been a Visiting Scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory since 1998. Cerf served as founding president of the Internet Society (ISOC) from 1992-1995 and on the
ISOC board until 2000. Cerf is a Fellow of the IEEE, ACM, and American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the International Engineering Consortium, the Computer History Museum and the National Academy of Engineering.
Cerf is a recipient of numerous awards and commendations in connection with his work on the Internet. These include the Marconi Fellowship, Charles Stark Draper award of the National Academy of Engineering, the Prince of Asturias award for science and technology, the Alexander Graham Bell Award presented by the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, the A.M. Turing Award from the Association for Computer Machinery, the Silver Medal of the International Telecommunications Union, and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal among many others. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA and over a dozen additional honorary degrees. In December, 1994, People magazine identified Cerf as one of that year's "25 Most Intriguing People."
In addition to his work on behalf of MCI and the Internet, Cerf has served as a technical advisor to production for "Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict." and made a special guest appearance on the program in May 1998. Cerf has appeared on television programs NextWave with Leonard Nimoy and on World Business Review with Alexander Haig and Caspar Weinberger.
His personal interests include fine wine, gourmet cooking and science fiction. Cerf and his wife, Sigrid, were married in 1966 and have two sons, David and Bennett.

Greg Dougherty

 Mr. Dougherty is a director and acting Chief Executive Officer of Picarro Networks, a venture-backed startup focused on developing innovative lasers and optical instrument solutions. Prior to joining Picarro, Mr. Dougherty served as Chief Operating Officer of JDS Uniphase and SDL Inc.
In addition to his tenures at JDS Uniphase and SDL Inc., his experience in fiber optic communications also includes senior marketing positions with AT&T's Microelectronics Group (which later became part of Lucent Technologies and then Agere Systems) and marketing and engineering positions at Codenoll Technology and Laser Diode, Incorporated.
Mr. Dougherty graduated with a bachelor's degree in optics from the University of Rochester. He currently serves on the board of directors at T Networks, Picarro and the Ronald McDonald House.

 Joel A. Smith III is Dean of the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina – Columbia. He joined USC in October of 2000 after his retirement from Bank of America in August.
Smith joined Bank of America in 1971 and during his tenure advanced from credit analyst to President of Bank of America East with responsibilities for Commercial, Small Business, Premier and Consumer Banking divisions in seven states and the District of Columbia, representing more than $90 billion in assets under management.
A native of Columbia, S.C., he graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., with a BA in political science and economics, from the National Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma and from the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. Smith served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971 and in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1971 to 1987, when he retired as commander.
Smith serves on the boards of the S.C. Business Center for Excellence in Education and S.C. ETV Endowment. He is a member of the Board of Regents for the University of the South. He is a member of the Board of Spoleto Festival USA and co-chairs the 25th Anniversary Campaign. Additionally he serves on the Board of Directors for NetBank, chairing the Compensation Committee, and is an organizer, Director and chair of the Audit Committee for Carolina National Bank & Trust.
In January 2003, Smith was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award given by the governor of South Carolina. In May 2001, Smith was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame and for 2000, named Humanitarian of the Year by the United Way. In 1997 he was named the S.C. Economic Development Volunteer of the Year by the SCEDA. He received the "Tree of Life" award from the National Jewish Fund and has been awarded honorary degrees from S.C. State University, Fayetteville State University and the University of South Carolina, Aiken. In 1994, he received the Businessman of the Year award from the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.

Susan Wang

 Susan Wang is a retired senior executive and corporate officer who spent more than 25 years in high-tech financial, consulting and senior management positions. As executive vice president, business development and corporate secretary of Solectron, she had responsibility for Solectron's long-range planning process and business development efforts and was the electronic manufacturing services industry's highest-ranking female executive.
Ms. Wang began her career at Solectron in 1984 as director of finance. She was promoted to vice president of finance and chief financial officer in 1986, became a senior vice president in 1990 and corporate secretary in 1992. She oversaw the company's initial public offering in 1989 and guided its growth into the world's largest electronics manufacturing services company. Before joining Solectron, she held financial and accounting management positions with Xerox Corporation and Westvaco Corporation. A certified public accountant, she began her career with Price Waterhouse & Co. in New York.
Ms. Wang also is active in a number of professional and community leadership roles. She chaired the Financial Executive Research Foundation, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and of the Financial Executive Institute. In 1995 she won the YWCA's Top Women in Industry Award, and she was named one of the San Francisco Bay Area's most powerful corporate women.
She earned a master's in business administration from the University of Connecticut and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas.

 Mr. Smith has 25 years experience building successful venture capital-backed computer and networking companies and achieving excellent results for customers, employees, and investors.
Mr. Smith is president and chief executive officer of PacketMotion, a venture-backed provider of security and compliance solutions for the Fortune 2000. Prior to joining PacketMotion, Mr. Smith was chairman and CEO of Tasman Networks, where he refocused the company into the enterprise market, tripled revenues, and guided its acquisition by Nortel. Prior to his work at Tasman, Mr. Smith served as vice president & general manager of the Telecom Division of New Focus where he created a pre-revenue division within the company, resulting in a successful IPO and secondary offering in 2001.
Mr. Smith also served as senior vice president of Marketing and Sales for Asante Technologies Inc. Mr. Smith has also held vice president roles at Proxim Wireless Corporation and Virtual Microsystems, Inc. and held marketing and engineering roles at Adept Technology, Inc. Both Proxim and Adept also achieved successful IPOs, and Virtual Microsystems was acquired.
Smith earned a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Alabama and an MSEE from Purdue University, and holds a patent in wireless LAN protocols.

Dennis Wolf

 Dennis Wolf has broad executive financial management experience in technology companies at the COO, CFO and Co-CEO levels. Mr. Wolf most recently served as Executive Vice President and CFO for MySQL, AB, a leading open source database company, where he was responsible for managing the company's finance operations. Prior to MySQL, Mr. Wolf held financial management positions for public high technology companies including Omnicell, Inc., Credence Systems, Centigram, Apple Computer and Sun Microsystems. He currently serves on the boards of Codexis and Quantum, and has been a board member and chair of the audit committee for Nasdaq-listed companies including Komag and Vitria Technology.
Mr. Wolf holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Denver.
