Scott Parker
Senior Vice President of Sales

Mr. Parker will join the company on Nov. 27, 2007 and will be responsible for executing the company's sales strategy, improving sales processes and increasing sales globally.
Mr. Parker brings over 20 years of sales and marketing experience in the optical and semiconductor industries and has a strong track record in driving sales growth and leading customer-focused teams.
Prior to joining Avanex, Mr. Parker served as the vice president of sales and marketing at Integration Associates and as CEO at Chelsio Communications, both start-up companies funded by Sequoia Capital. Prior to that, Mr. Parker served as senior vice president of sales and marketing for JDSU where he integrated the sales and customer service teams from numerous acquisitions. Mr. Parker also held sales and general manager positions at VLSI, National Semiconductor and Intel.
Mr. Parker earned an M.B.A and a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Utah.

Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa
Chief Technology Officer

As Avanex's senior technical officer, Dr. Giovanni Barbarossa has overall responsibility for the technology direction of the company.
Dr. Barbarossa has an impressive record of technical achievement and broad experience with some of the foremost companies in the optical communications industry, including Lucent and Agilent Technologies. His responsibilities at Avanex encompass continued innovation in the company's pioneering photonic processing technologies, and rapid development of viable passive components with immediate application and multi-functional intelligent modules and subsystems for optical network applications.
Dr. Barbarossa began his career at Avanex in February 2000 as Director of Research and Development. He subsequently was promoted to VP, Product Development and was assigned responsibility for all product development, including optical platform design, process engineering, packaging, automation, electronics and software development.
Throughout his career, Dr. Barbarossa has been instrumental in a number of key product development initiatives. He had management responsibilities for the development of advanced optical switching platforms during his tenure with the Optical Networking Division of Agilent Technologies. In addition, he led the Lucent Technologies Arrayed Waveguide Grating design team in the Optical Application Specific Integrated Circuits department, with overall responsibility for Planar Lightwave Circuit design and wafer technology as well as packaging and test development. Earlier, he was a member of the Technical Staff of Bell Laboratories. Before joining Bell Laboratories, he served on the faculty of Polytechnic of Bari, Italy, and was an assistant researcher in the Oxide Glasses for Future Networks Group at British Telecom Research Laboratories.
Dr. Barbarossa received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, cum laude, from the University of Bari, Italy.

Pat Edsell

Mr. Edsell is Senior Vice President and General Manager of Avanex and is responsible for the transmission, components and modules, and advanced modules and subsystems business units, along with the development center in Shanghai.
Mr. Edsell brings over 23 years of senior executive experience in the optical and microelectronic industries with a proven record of success.
Mr. Edsell has held several CEO positions in both private and public companies. In the private sector, he was the CEO of NP Photonics, specializing in the sensing, medial and R&D markets, where he led the development of a new strategic plan for the company and improved the overall financial performance of the company. In the public sector, Mr. Edsell served as the CEO of Spectra-Physics, where he led the company's transition from generating significant losses to solid profitability, completed a successful IPO and subsequent sale to Thermo Electron. Mr. Edsell also has held upper management positions at Pharos AB in Stockholm, Sweden, GP Technology, Sun Company, and GE.
Mr. Edsell earned his M.B.A from the University of New Mexico, an M.A. in Economics from Ohio State University and a B.S. in Economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Bradley Kolb
Senior Vice President of Operations

Bradley Kolb joined Avanex in March of 2006 as Senior Vice President of Operations.
Mr. Kolb has over 20 years of operational and financial experience with an extensive background in managing contract manufacturing sites around the globe. Prior to joining Avanex, Mr. Kolb was Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer at Vivato Inc., a venture backed startup producing WiFi infrastructure products. Prior to that, Mr. Kolb served as Vice President of Operations at Proxim Inc., a manufacturer of wireless networking equipment for WiFi and broadband wireless networks. Mr. Kolb also served as Vice President of Operations at Resilience Corporation, and held various management positions at American Microdevices Manufacturing Inc., Motorola, Litton Applied Technology and Varian Associates.
Mr. Kolb holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.

Jo Major
Chairman of the Board of Directors, President, and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Jo Major is Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Avanex. He has an extensive record of accomplishment as a senior executive in tier-one businesses. Dr. Major's experience includes internal and acquisition expertise in product development and introduction, especially with regard to driving the development of highly differentiated products from the design stage to manufacturing.
Dr. Major has spent 14 years with JDS Uniphase Corporation and with SDL, Inc. before its merger with JDS in 2001. At JDS Uniphase, he served successively as Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Components Business Group, as Vice President and General Manager of the Active Components Business Group and as Vice President and General Manager of the Optical Pump Business Unit.
At various times during his career with JDS Uniphase, Dr. Major was responsible for business unit profit and loss, customer and product line marketing, product development, product engineering, contract negotiation and forecasting, as well as rationalization and loading of factories in San Jose and Santa Clara, California; Victoria, British Columbia; Plymouth, United Kingdom; Ewing, New Jersey; Windham, Connecticut; Eindhoven, Holland, and Shenzhen, China. His product line responsibilities included pump lasers, receivers, source lasers, and lithium niobate modulators; all passive product lines, including passive modules, and waveguide product groups.
Dr. Major began his professional career at SDL, Inc. as a Research Scientist. He subsequently was promoted to Staff Scientist, to Senior Engineering Section Manager of the Communications Business Unit, to Director of Product Development of the Communications Business Unit and to Director of the Communications Business Unit.
At the time of the SDL and JDS merger, he was Vice President of the Optical Pump Business Unit, with responsibility for all pump laser products, erbium-doped amplifiers, Raman amplifiers and fiber Bragg gratings
As a Research Scientist, he was involved in the first demonstration and commercial introduction of the 980 nm pump laser diode, the commercial introduction of 2 micron lasers and the commercial introduction of high-power 250 mW 852 nm pump lasers for atomic (Ce) clocks. These devices remain the highest power frequency-stabilized laser diodes ever commercialized.
Dr. Major earned his Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois. He was an Intel Fellow from 1988-1990, and also has studied finance, marketing and business management at Stanford University.

Marla Sanchez

Marla Sanchez joined Avanex in 2006 and is responsible for all areas of finance, corporate planning and administration. Ms. Sanchez brings over 20 years of experience in international finance, cost accounting, controllership and strategic planning. Prior to joining Avanex, she was the Interim Chief Financial Officer at a portfolio company for SDL Ventures, a Silicon Valley investment firm specializing in early stage funding for optical technologies. Prior to that, Ms. Sanchez served as Corporate Controller for SDL, Inc., where she was responsible for all financial reporting, improving the quarterly close process, managing and building the finance team and financially integrating acquisitions. Ms. Sanchez was also the Director of Manufacturing Finance and Cost Systems for VLSI Technology and held controllership positions for Diasonics Corporation and Ridge Computers. She also held positions at Advanced Micro Devices and Four Phase Systems.
Ms. Sanchez earned a M.B.A in finance from the University of Santa Clara and a M.S. and B.S. in biological science from Stanford University.
